The good folk over at Great Place to Work have today released the findings of their Wellbeing at Work report and the lists of the UK’s Best Workplaces for Wellbeing 2023. We’re proud to share that we’ve jumped quite substantially this year, now sitting in 2nd place in the Medium-sized business category!

Last year we placed 15th in the Small business category, so it’s brilliant to not only have jumped up in size thanks to our impressive growth but to have placed so highly in a list of 100 businesses with 51-250 employees.

The Wellbeing at Work report focuses on the organisations that consistently and tirelessly put employee well-being at the forefront, despite myriad challenges such as The Great Resignation, a looming economic downturn/recession, and increasing business costs as a result of the extortionate cost of living here in the UK.  But let’s not get into that right now!

The expert analysts at Great Place to Work analysed over 140,000 survey responses gathered from employees to gauge the extent to which they believe their workplace has taken the fundamental aspects of well-being seriously, and what really matters to employees today when it comes to their day-to-day well-being.

The report, which is free to access, has collated this qualitative research across three key themes that kept presenting themselves in survey responses: People Management, Work-Life Balance and Hybrid Working, and Financial Support and Security.  Those placed across the winning lists have shown commitment to their employees across these areas – and many more – and score consistently higher than their contemporaries.

For example, data in the People Management section found that employees want to feel heard by their managers – and the difference between those rated within the Top 5 of each list versus other companies.  As you can see, there’s a distinct difference and a bit of growth in this area versus 2022.

Equally, results show a difference in performance when it comes to Work-Life Balance and Hybrid Working, both of which are areas we’ve discussed extensively over the last couple of years thanks to our 4-Day Working policy and various People initiatives that centre around a better Work-Life Balance.

Finally, the ongoing cost of living crisis has made financial well-being an urgent concern for more UK employees than ever before. Employee responses to the survey revealed the all-consuming nature of money worries and how organisations are playing a part to support and empower their employees in this complex area. Whilst there’s definitely room for improvement, the data shows a difference of around 20% when comparing the Top 5 businesses on each list to other companies, and furthermore, 94% of survey respondents stated that they believe their employer would only lay off staff as a last resort.

Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place to Work® UK explains: “At the heart of every organisation are its people and looking after their wellbeing should be much more than a package of impressive perks on a careers website. We know when employees feel genuinely contented and at ease within their roles, they are much more engaged and productive. Now in our second year of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Wellbeing list, we’re once again able to showcase the leading organisations providing cultures conducive to outstanding psychological, physical and social well-being. A huge congratulations to Evolved for making this prestigious list.”

The interesting takeaway from the whole report is that whilst “snazzy solutions” and extravagant perks go a long way in terms of attracting and retaining talent, the most beneficial action in maintaining employee well-being is just, y’know… being a human being and asking them how they are.  People just want to feel valued and heard.

So congratulations to every organisation named in the Best Workplaces for Wellbeing 2023 list and if we do say so ourselves, well done us for implementing policies that genuinely add value to the lives of our team members, and for clearly doing quite a lot right to make it so high on the list in only our second year of being part of the Great Place to Work initiative.
